NOTE: - Your booklet tells you that you can create a template either by saving a document as a template or by using File / OPen / then clicking on the radio button for template. That second choice is no longer available in Word 2003. So create your templates by saving a document as a template.
After you learn how to create a template, it's crucial to understand the difference between editing or opening a template in order to make changes to it (File / Open / Files of type: Document Templates (*.dot))

and opening a document based on a template (double-click on the .dot file).
